What you should pack for a boat trip on the fjord

17 October 2025

A fjord cruise in Bergen doesn't take much planning, but packing a few of the right things makes the experience far better. The weather in Western Norway can change quickly, and good preparation means you can enjoy the day without giving it a second thought.

Klær:
Layers work best. A light wool jumper and a windproof jacket will keep you warm if it's windy. In summer it's a good idea to pack swimwear and a towel in your bag – you're guaranteed to want a swim once you see the water.

Fottøy:
Choose shoes with good grip, such as trainers or deck shoes. Avoid high heels and slippery soles. If you're combining the boat trip with a hike, we recommend bringing sturdy walking shoes with good grip.

Utstyr:
Sunglasses, a cap, a camera and sun cream are worth bringing. Even on overcast days the light is strong out on the water.

Food and drink:
Most trips last three to five hours, so bring something simple – fruit, snacks or a light packed lunch. Water and coffee are often available on board.

Extra tips:
A small towel and a power bank always come in handy. Remember that the skipper has all the safety equipment and fishing gear ready – all you need to do is turn up.

A fjord cruise in Bergen is all about freedom, peace and nature. Pack the right things and that's exactly what you'll get.
